About the Program
The Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) offers the Ramanujan Fellowship to outstanding Indian scientists and engineers living abroad, encouraging them to return to India. The fellowship supports them in taking up research positions in Indian scientific institutions and universities. The fellows are also eligible for regular research grants from various S&T agencies of the Government of India.
Benefits
Selected candidates will receive:
- Monthly Fellowship: INR 1.35 lakh (consolidated, including HRA).
- Research Grant: INR 7 lakh per annum for consumables, travel, research personnel, contingencies, etc.
- Overhead Charges: INR 60,000 per annum.
- Additional Grants: Eligibility for regular research grants through the extramural funding schemes of various S&T agencies of the Government of India.
Eligibility
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be scientists or engineers working abroad.
- Be below the age of 40.
- Hold a higher degree such as a Ph.D. in Science/Engineering, a Master's in Engineering or Technology, an MD in Medicine, or equivalent.
- Have adequate professional experience.
- Have a proven track record as evidenced by research publications and recognition.
- Not hold any permanent/tenure track/contractual position in any Indian institute/university.
- Be working abroad at the time of nomination.

Applicants must submit the following documents in PDF format:
- Nomination Letter (on letterhead, duly signed, and stamped).
- Curriculum Vitae (CV) of the Nominee.
- Plagiarism undertaking.

- After successful registration, complete the mandatory fields in the Profile Detail under User Profile, upload the required documents, and submit the online application.
Note: The proposal must be uploaded in a single PDF file not exceeding 10 MB.

Selection Criteria
- Selection will be made periodically by an empowered Search-cum-Selection committee specially appointed for the purpose.
Terms and Conditions
- After submission, both the nominee and nominator will receive an intimation regarding successful submission.
- The nominator can submit the nomination to SERB or resend the form to the nominee for revision.
