In a devastating aviation tragedy that has shocked the country, Air India Flight AI171, traveling from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, crashed shortly after takeoff this afternoon. Flight AI171 Crashes Minutes After Departure

The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner departed from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport between 1:00 and 2:00 PM IST. It reportedly reached an altitude of 825 feet before losing control and descending rapidly.

Eyewitnesses reported a loud noise followed by a thick plume of grey smoke rising in the vicinity of the airport. Emergency services, including over two dozen ambulances, fire brigades, and rescue teams, were dispatched immediately.

Credible sources within the state government confirmed that former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani was onboard the crashed aircraft. His inclusion on the flight has added serious national and political concern to an already catastrophic event.

“We are awaiting official confirmation of his status,” a senior BJP spokesperson stated.

Air India issued a short statement confirming the incident:
"Flight AI171, operating Ahmedabad-London Gatwick, was involved in an incident today, 12 June 2025. At this moment, we are ascertaining the details and will share further updates at the earliest."

Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said:
“Shocked and devastated to learn about the flight crash in Ahmedabad. We are on the highest alert. I am personally monitoring the situation and have directed all aviation and emergency response agencies to take swift and coordinated action.”

Tata Group Chairman N Chandrasekaran, who oversees Air India, stated:
“With profound sorrow, I confirm that Air India Flight 171 was involved in a tragic accident. Our deepest condolences are with the families of those affected. Emergency teams are on-site, and support centers have been activated.”

London Gatwick Airport also acknowledged the incident, confirming that the flight was scheduled to land at 18:25 GMT.

Ongoing Rescue and Medical Operations

Several injured passengers have already been transported to hospitals in Ahmedabad. Traffic diversions have been set up to allow emergency services free access to the crash zone. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is working alongside local fire and medical units at the crash site.
