Brave Souls Foundation, registered under the Indian Trusts Act, 1882, is an organisation working against acid attacks and gender-based violence. It comprehensively engages with the issues, providing — treatment, rehabilitation, awareness, and legal justice. The organisation is headquartered in Delhi, has a branch office in Calcutta, and works across India.
The Director (Law) is responsible for legal interventions. The office oversees criminal cases and appeals, cases for compensation and medical treatment, initiating public interest litigation on these issues, and increasing legal awareness and conducting trainings.
The Legal Officer would be stationed in Calcutta and operate under the overall guidance of the Director (Law) and direct supervision of the State Coordinator.
Responsibilities:
a. Prepare and submit applications, complaints, legal representations, petitions, etc. to various authorities, commissions, courts, hospitals, police departments, civil society organizations, etc., on behalf of the survivors. Accompany survivors during appearances and interviews at such places.
b. Provide legal representation for survivors in disciplinary proceedings, criminal cases, appeals, writ petitions, tribunals, and courts of law, especially the High Court of Calcutta.
c. Conduct legal training and workshops for the survivors, activists, advocates, and other legal and human rights professionals.
d. Lead fact-finding commissions to investigate incidents of human rights abuses.
e. Prepare reports and white papers on acid attacks, gender violence, and other human rights issues.
Qualifications:
a. Admitted as an Advocate on the rolls of the Bar Council and authorized to independently practice before the High Court of Calcutta.
b. Excellent skills in drafting and presenting arguments before courts and tribunals, particularly in criminal matters and specifically in the High Court and trial courts.
c. 2-3 years of experience, including independently arguing cases at the High Court.
d. Proficiency in English and Bengali, with outstanding public speaking abilities.
e. Willingness to travel for fact-finding commissions, training programs, awareness campaigns, and legal cases in Calcutta, West Bengal, and other locations.
f. Preference will be given to acid attack survivors, women, trans-persons, Dalits and minorities.

Note: This occupation is expected to engage the Legal Officers for the entirety of their working day; however, they are allowed to undertake private cases as long as it does not contradict the principles and scope of the organization, as well as human rights in general.
