Gurugram flooded, officegoers wade through water, 5-km-long traffic jam on Delhi-Jaipur expressway
details

Rainfall in Delhi-NCR caused waterlogging on the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway (National Highway 48), leading to a 5-km-long traffic jam in Gurugram. Officegoers were forced to ditch their rides and wade through waterlogged streets.

Rains lashed Gurugram on Wednesday for several hours, causing traffic jams and waterlogging in several areas. Waterlogging on the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway (National Highway 48) caused a 5-km-long traffic jam even as office goers ditched their rides and waded through water with their shoes in hand.

Visuals from Narsinghpur Chowk and Hero Honda Chowk showed people pushing their vehicles as the water stood above knee-height. Even along internal roads, commuters took an unusually long time to cross the stretch, leading to congestion.

Officials said city police and Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) were present in key areas to manage traffic and remove the water. A traffic police officer told the Hindustan Times that teams had been deployed at Iffco Chowk, Subhash Chowk, Vatika Chowk, Golf Course Extension Road and in Sector 50.

The waterlogging and traffic jams have left locals frustrated. They said the district administration had earlier assured there would be no waterlogging after the rains this time. Many of them took to social media to flag the issue with the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority.

The waterlogging also caused vehicles to break down and people were unable to reach their workplaces due to the traffic jam.

The waterlogging also led to vehicles breaking down, while commuters and pedestrians had to wade through knee-deep water in low-lying areas. Videos shared on social media show the tyres of four-wheelers and two-wheelers submerged.

Gurugram residents have opined that the rainfall might have brought down the temperature in the Delhi NCR region but was more of a calamity than relief.

Light rain lashed parts of the Delhi-NCR on Wednesday morning. The weather department had predicted thunderstorm conditions with light to moderate rain and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph in some areas adjoining Delhi, including Gurugram.
