Position: Research Assistant (Masters or Early Tenure Doctoral Students Without Any Funding)
Type: Part-Time (2-3 months)
Remuneration: ?8,000 - ?10,000 per month

About the Role: Tomorrow's Foundation, India, is seeking a dedicated and skilled student to conduct an in-depth literature survey on publications related to Alternative Wetting-Drying (AWD) - a climate-friendly rice irrigation practice. This research will focus on Eastern India and similar agroecological regions. The interim aim is to prepare a comprehensive state-of-the-science report that will serve as preparatory material for a large-scale AWD deployment project. This project is supported by the Government of West Bengal and international climate investors, financed through the Voluntary Carbon Market.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct extensive literature reviews on AWD practices in rice irrigation, focusing on Eastern India and similar regions.
  • Communicate with authors of agricultural technical bulletins and extension literature to gather additional insights and data.
  • Compile and synthesize findings into a comprehensive report.
  • Ensure the report covers the potential of AWD in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving water use efficiency.
  • Quickly summarize key points of primary literature scientific articles.
  • Work within a strict deadline, reporting progress regularly.
  • Collaborate with the project lead for guidance and feedback.

Qualifications:

  • Current MSc/early-PhD student with a focus on environmental science, agriculture, water resources, or related fields.
  • Proven experience in conducting literature reviews.
  • Strong analytical and writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with authors of technical bulletins and extension literature.
  • Interest in climate-friendly agricultural practices and carbon markets is a plus.
