Scope of work

The fellowship programme at SLD aims to target aspiring young minds, who are passionate about improving the lives of the working population and migrant workers. By bringing in young, smart, and creative professionals to shift the ecosystem in favour of migrant worker rights, this programme will give young people the opportunity to effect positive change at the grassroots level. The three-year fellowship programme's primary objective is to improve the lives of migrant workers through a rights-based approach.

What to expect?

Workplace rights and dignity are essential human rights. But every day, millions of workers around the world experience abusive working conditions, pitiful wages, and humiliation and mistreatment at work. What rights do workers worldwide have? How are they different in India? What unique and disproportionate effects do women workers experience at work? How significant is the relationship between rights and the right to associate freely? And how do they relate to combating poverty, advancing equality, and encouraging civic engagement? In this programme, candidates will investigate these issues from a multi-level, interdisciplinary perspective. Candidates will gain knowledge and practical skills for advancing migrant workers' rights through a thoughtful combination of in-person lectures, video lectures, readings, online resources, and interviews with researchers and labour scholars from across India.
