The Maharashtra Congress unit will felicitate Siddaramaiah on June 25 for leading the party to victory in Karnataka.
The Karnataka chief minister will also address farmers during the event. The decision to this effect was taken a meeting between party leaders and former minister Vishwajeet Kadam, who said around 20,000 people are expected to attend the event.
This will be Siddaramaiah’s first visit to Sangli after assuming power.
“Siddaramaiah is liked by many from Kolhapur, Sangli and Satara districts. We had the opportunity to campaign in several assembly constituencies in Karnataka and therefore we thought of inviting him to Maharashtra. The felicitation will take place at Neminath Nagar in Sangli after which the CM will address farmers and party workers,” Kadam said
Kadam said Siddaramaiah’s visit is likely to boost the morale of party workers in the region ahead of the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections
Congress leaders to make demands on water supply
During the event, Congress leaders will demand permanent supply of water from Tubachi Bableshwar irrigation project in Karnataka to drought-prone border villages of Jat tehsil in Sangli district. “Maharashtra releases water to Karnataka in summer and people expect Karnataka reciprocates by releasing water from the project to 60-odd villages of Jat tehsil,” Jat Congress MLA Vikramsinha Sawanthe said.
