1.)Early life and education:
Amala Akkineni was born in Calcutta (present-day Kolkata) on September 12, 1967, to a Bengali Indian Navy officer and an Irish mother. Her family soon shifted to Madras (present-day Chennai) where she was brought up. She has a brother. Amala holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Bharatanatyam from Kalakshetra college of fine arts, Madras now Chennai. She gave many live performances worldwide. She is fluent in English, Tamil and Telugu, and can understand Bengali.
2.)Career:
Amala Akkineni began her acting career in 1986 with the Tamil film "Apoorva Sagodharargal". She went on to star in over 100 films in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada languages. She was a leading actress in the Tamil film industry from 1986 to 1992 and has appeared in many blockbusters in Tamil and other languages. She has won two Filmfare Awards South, namely Best Actress – Malayalam for the 1991 film Ulladakkam and Best Supporting Actress – Telugu for the 2012 film Life Is Beautiful.
3.)Personal life:
Amala Akkineni is married to actor Nagarjuna Akkineni. They have two sons, Naga Chaitanya and Akhil Akkineni.
4.)Awards and recognition:
Amala Akkineni has won numerous awards for her work in films, including two Filmfare Awards South, the Kalaimamani Award, and the Padma Shri Award. She has also been honored by the Government of India with the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award in India.
5.)Activism:
Amala Akkineni is a strong advocate for animal welfare and is the president of the Blue Cross of Hyderabad, an animal welfare organization. She is also a member of the Animal Welfare Board of India.
6.)Other interests:
Amala Akkineni is also a trained Bharatanatyam dancer and has performed all over the world. She is also a writer and has written two books, "Amala: A Journey" and "My Life with Animals".
