Position Details
Role: Counsellor
Monthly Payment: ?16,000 + TA ?1,200

Education & Experience Required
- Postgraduate in Psychology or Social Work (regular course).
- If not available, Graduate in Psychology or Social Work (regular course) with minimum two years’ work experience in counselling or working with TIs/Adolescent Health Programme/Mental Health settings/Substance Abuse programmes.
Key Skills Required
- Familiarity with issues related to marginalised communities, HRGs, and families.
- Strong communication and mobilisation skills.
- Proficiency in report writing, documentation, and case studies.
- Fieldwork commitment of 10–12 days per month.
- Ability to manage and guide a small team.
Job Responsibilities
The Counsellor will provide counselling and communication support under the HIV/AIDS Programme, ensuring confidentiality and effective outreach. Major duties include:
- Conduct individual and group counselling sessions on HIV/AIDS, STI, safe sex, drug use, OST, and health education.
- Provide family counselling and condom use demonstrations.
- Motivate clients for medical check-ups and health referrals.
- Coordinate BCC activities and provide psychosocial support to clients and families.
- Maintain records, reports, and referral registers accurately.
- Ensure bio-medical waste management and compliance with health protocols.
- Engage in social welfare linkages and outreach meetings to improve service uptake.
Reporting & Documentation
The Counsellor will report to the Project Manager (PM) and maintain all registers including referral, follow-up, patient, condom stock, and medical records. Regular data submission and case studies (minimum 12 annually) are required.
Training Requirements
- Supervision, monitoring, and team building.
- Case record compilation and risk assessment.
- Condom demonstration and re-demonstration.
- HIV/AIDS, STI, NSEP/OST, and community-based monitoring knowledge.
