Sarfaraz Khan continues to break the door down, sends another reminder to Ajit Agarkar, Gautam Gambhir

???? Updated on: Aug 26, 2025 | 06:44 PM IST

Right-handed batter Sarfaraz Khan is showing no signs of slowing down as he continues to make a strong case for a Test comeback ahead of India’s home season, beginning October 2 against the West Indies.

Having been overlooked for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England, Sarfaraz seems determined to prove a point. On Tuesday, the 27-year-old smashed yet another century for Mumbai against Haryana in the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament.

Another commanding ton in domestic cricket

Sarfaraz reached his century in just 99 balls, finishing on 111 runs before being dismissed by Parth Vats. He brought up the landmark with a massive six off Ishant Bharadwaj, celebrating by raising his bat and removing his helmet as the Mumbai camp cheered him on.

This knock follows his brilliant 138 not out in the tournament opener against TNCA XI, where he showcased an aggressive brand of cricket, attacking bowlers from the very first ball.

A message to the selectors

Sarfaraz’s consistent form sends a direct message to chief selector Ajit Agarkar and head coach Gautam Gambhir. With Karun Nair and Sai Sudharsan failing to cement their spots in the England series, the selectors now have a decision to make for the vacant No.3 slot and a lower middle-order position.

Fighting cramps, chasing dreams

Despite battling cramps during his innings against Haryana, Sarfaraz carried on to complete his century. His resilience highlighted not just form, but also determination to force his way back into the Indian Test side.

Past struggles and unfinished business

  • Sarfaraz was part of India’s Border-Gavaskar Trophy squad earlier this year in Australia but did not feature in a single Test.

  • He had scored 150 runs against New Zealand in Bengaluru last year but couldn’t replicate success on turning tracks in Pune and Mumbai.

  • In unofficial Tests for India A against the England Lions, he made 92 runs in the first match but was dropped from the second.

So far, he has played 11 Tests, scoring 371 runs at an average of 37.10.

What next?

With the upcoming series against West Indies and South Africa, all eyes will be on the selectors. Sarfaraz Khan’s bat is doing all the talking—will it finally be enough to secure his long-awaited place in the playing XI?
