In a heartfelt gesture of gratitude and remembrance, the Indian Army on Sunday honoured the family of Lance Naik Krishna Kumar, a braveheart of the 17th Jat Regiment who laid down his life during the Kargil War in 1999.

As part of the ongoing ‘Ghar-Ghar Shaurya Samman’ campaign, Army representatives visited the martyr’s home in Tarkanwali village, Sirsa district of Haryana. The team, including Havildar Kamlesh Bishroi and Soldier Sunil, presented a certificate of honour and a memento to Krishna Kumar’s family.

His wife Santosh Devi, sons Manoj and Mukesh, and brother Baljeet were present during the tribute ceremony.

The initiative, launched in the run-up to the 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas on July 26, 2025, is aimed at paying personal homage to the martyrs by visiting their families and acknowledging their sacrifice.

Lance Naik Krishna Kumar, only 20 years old at the time, was martyred on May 30, 1999, during fierce combat in Kargil. His courage, patriotism, and selfless service continue to inspire generations of Indians.

About the 'Ghar-Ghar Shaurya Samman' Campaign

The Indian Army’s campaign seeks to:

  • Honour the sacrifices of fallen soldiers

  • Personally connect with their families

  • Present official tokens of gratitude such as certificates and mementos

  • Understand and address issues faced by the families of martyrs

This respectful outreach is a reaffirmation of the Army's unwavering commitment to its soldiers and their families.

Kargil War and Operation Vijay

The Kargil War, fought in the high-altitude terrains of Tololing, Tiger Hill, and surrounding regions, ended victoriously for India with the conclusion of Operation Vijay on July 26, 1999.

At that time, Kargil was part of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, which was later reorganized into two Union Territories — Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh — in 2020. Today, Kargil lies in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
