About the Grant
The South Asia Regional Energy Partnership (SAREP) is USAID’s flagship regional energy program aimed at improving access to affordable, secure, reliable, and sustainable energy across six South Asian countries:
- Bangladesh
- Bhutan
- India
- Maldives
- Nepal
- Sri Lanka
Program Duration: 2021-2026
Objectives:

Enhanced Regional Energy Markets and Integration
- Develop regional power markets
- Increase cross-border electricity trade
- Create a regionally integrated grid for energy security

Increased Deployment of Advanced Energy Solutions and Systems
- Accelerate clean energy technologies (renewables, energy storage, electric vehicles, etc.)
- Support renewable energy integration

High-Performing Modern Utilities
- Modernize transmission and distribution utilities
- Improve grid resilience and customer service

Transparent, Best-Value Procurement and Private Sector Investment Mobilized
- Increase private sector investments
- Enhance procurement processes and governance

- Private Sector Engagement: Enhance participation and mobilize resources
- Gender Diversity and Inclusion: Mainstream gender considerations and promote women leaders
- Pollution Mitigation: Advance clean energy to reduce air pollution

- Fixed Amount Awards (FAAs)
- Simplified Cost-Reimbursement Grants (SIG)

Grant Size:
- Non-U.S. Organizations: Up to $500,000 USD
- U.S. Organizations: Up to $250,000 USD
Eligibility
Eligible applicants include:
- Private Sector / For-Profit Entities
- Non-Profit Organizations
- Nongovernmental Organizations (NGOs)
- Civil Society Organizations
- Business Service Organizations
- Industry, Trade, or Private Sector Associations
- Educational/Training or Academic Institutions
- Think Tanks/Research Entities
Note:
- Government and quasi-government entities (parastatals) are not eligible.
- Applicants must be registered and legally authorized to operate in the respective South Asian countries.
- Must comply with USAID regulations and applicable local laws.
