Akash Deep Dedicates 10-Wicket Haul To His Sister Battling Cancer

India’s fast bowler Akash Deep, who took 10 wickets in the second Test against England at Edgbaston, moved fans and family when he dedicated his match-winning performance to his sister, Jyoti, who is battling cancer.

After India’s 336-run victory, Akash revealed on live TV that Jyoti is undergoing treatment for stage-three cancer. She said she was surprised by his public revelation, as the family wasn’t ready to speak about it yet, but she deeply appreciated the love he showed.

Jyoti explained that her treatment is expected to continue for another six months and praised her brother for remaining focused despite the difficult circumstances at home. She recalled how, even during the IPL when Akash was playing for Lucknow, he would visit her before or after matches.

She said their bond is special, especially since their father and elder brother have passed away, and Akash now shoulders the responsibility of the family.

In her own words:

“Such a brother is rare. He shares everything with us and looks after the whole household. Even in this situation, he’s performed for India — we’re so proud.”

Akash, after his performance, told Jyoti over a video call:

“Don’t worry, the whole country is with us. I couldn’t hold it in anymore.”
