Meta Title: NEET PG 2025: SC Orders Single Shift Exam for Transparency | NBEMS Seeks Time
Meta Description: Supreme Court directs NBEMS to conduct NEET PG 2025 in a single shift to ensure fairness. Read about the logistical challenges, possible delay, and student impact.
In a landmark move to ensure fairness and transparency in India's postgraduate medical entrance exam, the Supreme Court (SC) has directed the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) to conduct NEET PG 2025 in a single shift using a common question paper.
The SC's decision came after students challenged the dual-shift exam format, raising concerns about uneven difficulty levels and an unreliable normalisation process. While the medical fraternity has largely welcomed the court’s directive, it has posed significant logistical challenges for NBEMS, with the possibility of a delay now looming.
The normalisation process used in a dual-shift exam was arbitrary.
It failed to address variations in difficulty between question papers.
It compromised merit-based evaluation, affecting final rankings.
The SC agreed that "no two papers can have identical difficulty levels" and emphasized the need for a common paper in a single shift to uphold transparency and merit.
While the SC’s ruling prioritizes fairness, it puts NBEMS under pressure due to massive logistical demands:
900+ additional centres required to accommodate all candidates in one shift
Limited availability of secure and verified exam locations
Need for advanced security protocols like signal jammers and surveillance systems
Tight deadline: June 15, 2025, is the scheduled date
NBEMS is in active discussion with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to expand exam infrastructure.
The board informed the SC that the current infrastructure cannot support a single-shift exam by June 15.
SC has allowed NBEMS to request a time extension if necessary.
While there is speculation of a delay, no official postponement has been announced. A senior faculty member notes:
"There are chances of the exam getting delayed due to the logistical scale-up. However, students should not rely on this and must continue preparations as scheduled."
Important Note for Aspirants:
Continue preparing as per the original NEET PG 2025 timeline.
Follow updates only from official NBEMS sources.
Avoid rumors and speculation on social media.
The move to a single-shift, common paper format has been welcomed by students, educators, and doctors. It aims to:
Restore trust in the exam process
Eliminate perceived unfair advantages
Ensure merit-based admissions in postgraduate medical courses
Despite execution challenges, this reform could set a new standard for competitive exams in India.
The Supreme Court’s decision to conduct NEET PG 2025 in a single shift is a bold and necessary step to ensure fairness, even though it has thrown NBEMS into a logistical race against time. While a possible exam delay remains uncertain, the decision sends a clear message that student trust and merit must be protected in all national-level exams.
Stay tuned for further updates, and keep your focus on preparation and revision.
