Indian Navy Launches Retaliatory Strike After Cross-Border Attacks

In a significant escalation of military tensions between India and Pakistan, the Indian Navy has launched targeted operations in the Arabian Sea early Friday morning, May 9, 2025. The counter-strike comes after Pakistan attempted missile and drone attacks on Indian military facilities in Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, and other northern states.

Sources confirmed that the naval operations are part of a broader response under Operation Sindoor, which began after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 people dead.

Pakistan's Attempted Strike: Missiles and Drones Neutralized

On Thursday evening, Pakistani-origin drones and missiles targeted Indian military installations in Jammu, Pathankot, Udhampur, and Jaisalmer. Cities like RS Pura, Arnia, Samba, and Hiranagar also came under attempted missile fire.

India’s air defence systems, including S-400, Akash, and Barak-8, successfully intercepted and neutralized all incoming threats. No civilian or military casualties were reported.

The Defence Ministry stated:

“Threats were swiftly neutralised using kinetic and non-kinetic capabilities in line with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). No casualties or material losses reported.”

Blackouts and Security Alerts Issued Across Northern India

To prevent detection and safeguard military operations, blackouts were enforced across critical cities including:

  • Chandigarh

  • Mohali

  • Srinagar

  • Pathankot

  • Jaisalmer

Sirens were heard across several border towns as civilians were instructed to stay indoors and restrict vehicular movement.

Operation Sindoor: India Targets Terror Camps and Defence Systems

In the early hours of Wednesday, India had launched Operation Sindoor, targeting nine terror-linked locations in Pakistan. These included the headquarters of Lashkar-e-Taiba in Muridke and Jaish-e-Mohammed camps in Bahawalpur.

On Thursday morning, Indian Armed Forces escalated further by destroying an air defence radar in Lahore, in what officials described as a “precise, calibrated, and restrained” operation.

India Warns of Escalation Triggered by Pakistan

India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri firmly rebutted Pakistan’s claims of Indian escalation, stating:

“The original escalation was by Pakistan on April 22 with the terror attack in Pahalgam. India is merely responding with precise, non-civilian, non-military strikes on terrorist infrastructure.”

He reiterated India’s commitment to regional peace but emphasized that any further aggression from Pakistan will be met with an appropriate response.

What’s Next?

As of early May 9, military activity continues in the Arabian Sea, with Indian naval assets targeting Pakistani positions. Reports suggest a multi-branch coordination between the Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy to secure India's borders and deter future incursions.

Security has been heightened at key military installations, and border states are maintaining high alert as the situation evolves.

Conclusion

India’s strong and coordinated response — combining air, land, and naval operations — underscores a clear message: any provocation will be met with decisive and measured force. As Operation Sindoor unfolds, India's strategy remains focused on eliminating threats while minimizing civilian impact.

Stay tuned for updates as the India-Pakistan situation continues to develop.
