National Democratic Alliance
details

National Democratic Alliance is an association of many political parties and leads by Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP). It is a huge alliance that currently controls the Indian Government and 17 more state governments of India. NDA doesn't have any interference in Government and is completely dependent on the leaders selected by the NDA members. The current chairman of NDA is Amit Shah.

History:-

The NDA was founded in 1998 to take participation in the general elections. The main reason behind NDA was to form an anti-Indian National Congress Group. It was led by BJP and buildup with many parties like Samta Party, AIADMK, Shiv Sena (who later left the alliance and joined the congress alliance). The first Chairman of NDA was Atal Bihari Bajpai, Lal Krishna Advani, and the former deputy Prime Minister was the chairman from 2004 to 2014 and Amit Shah, who is the chairman from 2014. NDA's leader Narendra Modi took oath as Prime Minister of India in 2014, and in 2019, he again won with 353 seats successfully possessed by NDA with 43% of vote share.

Shiv Sena was the only Hindutava ideology supportive Party. In 1999 with the support of few regional parties, NDA won the elections, and Atal Bihari Bajpai became Prime Minister for the third time and served all five years. In 2004, NDA loosed the elections from United Progressive Alliance, which Congress-led and Dr Manmohan Singh were chosen as the Prime Minister and ruled for ten years.

Present State governments of NDA in India:-

Currently, many higher authorities such as the Prime Minister of India, Chief Minister of many States like Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan and Odisha are from National Democratic Alliance. Still, BJP never gets Kerala, Telangana and West Bengal. Apart from this, many other parties belong to NDA that are in rule.

What is the structure of NDA?

All the decisions regarding election seats, ministers and issues brought up in Parliament are taken by leaders and individual parties; NDA never interferes in that. There can be many disagreements from other parties and can have different votes in the alliance. There is an NDA Converter for this situation. At early, George Fernandez was the NDA converter, but in 2008, due to bad health, he left the position, and Sharad Yadav took charge. Currently, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Mr Chandra Babu Naidu, is the NDA Converter.
