"Rohit Sharma Will Faint": India Legend Slams Gautam Gambhir
The future of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in international cricket has become a topic of debate with Gautam Gambhir's recent appointment as head coach of the Indian team. Despite both players announcing their T20I retirements after the T20 World Cup final, Gambhir has suggested that they might still have a role to play, especially in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy and the World Test Championship in 2025.
Krishnamachari Srikkanth criticized Gambhir for what he perceives as a reversal of stance. Gambhir had previously indicated that senior players, including Sharma and Kohli, would need to perform to secure their places. However, Gambhir now believes both players still have significant cricket left in them.
Srikkanth raised concerns about the likelihood of Sharma, currently 37, participating in the 2027 ODI World Cup, given the physical demands of playing at an advanced age. He suggested that while Kohli, due to his fitness, might make it, Sharma's chances are slim, comparing the situation to the longevity of other greats like MS Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar. The 2027 ODI World Cup will be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.
