About the Program

The fellowship is aimed at candidates who have qualified in the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by UGC or the UGC-CSIR joint test. It provides financial support and benefits to enable research pursuits in universities, institutions, and colleges.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the fellowship, applicants must:

  • Have qualified in NET or the UGC-CSIR joint test.
  • Hold a master's degree in Humanities, Science, or Social Science stream with at least 55% marks.
  • Not be more than 30 years of age as of 01 June 2020. (Note: Candidates awaiting results of their final year of master's degree can also apply.)

Benefits

Selected fellows receive:

  • Fellowship amount up to INR 14,000 per month.
  • Contingency grant up to INR 25,000 per annum.
  • Departmental assistance of INR 3,000 per annum per student to the host institution.
  • Escort/reader assistance of INR 2,000 per month to physically handicapped and blind candidates.
  • House rent allowance, medical facilities, and paid leaves as per university/institution norms.

Selection is based on the performance in the computer-based NET examination.

Terms and Conditions

  • The fellowship tenure is initially for two years under the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) scheme.
  • Upon satisfactory evaluation of research work, the tenure can be extended for a further three years as Senior Research Fellowship (SRF).
  • The total duration of fellowship (JRF + SRF) cannot exceed five years.
