In addition to our topical areas of focus – noncommunicable diseases, environmental health and climate change, injury prevention, social determinants of health we also prioritize work that aims to strengthen the fundamental, foundational dimensions of public health practice that enable governments to tackle and respond to any public health challenge.
Responsibilities:
1. Work closely with the Surveillance Coordinator and the Initiative Coordinator to understand the tasks and deliver them in a timely manner.
2. Serve as liaison between partners and governments at the Maharashtra state level, in particular:
? Senior police officials and city police for issues related to crash reporting and analysis.
? Medical examiner systems
? Health departments
? Other stakeholders
3. Provide scaling-up and institutionalization support for the national crash database system:
4. Work with police and other partners to support the establishment of data collection, analysis, and management arrangements and processes.
5. Work with designated personnel to oversee data entry, conduct data cleaning and management of designated data sets for Mumbai and within the state of Maharashtra.
6. Train, monitor and oversee contracted data entry staff.
7. Conduct analyses and prepare tables, charts, and maps both for routine review and special queries for Mumbai and within the state of Maharashtra.
8. Work with appropriate municipalities to prepare annual road safety reports based on available sources for crash/injury death data, as well as risk factors data within the state of Maharashtra.
9. Disseminate and present road safety report findings to stakeholders and promote data use for policy and planning.
10. Complete a handover of the work to the Surveillance Coordinator and the Initiative Coordinator prior to contract end.
11. Travel 20% of the time within the state of Maharashtra as needed by the Initiative Coordinator.
12. Travel outside of Maharashtra when needed.
13. Miscellaneous Activities:
• As needed, provide support for different institutions in data.
• As needed, follow up on data requests for data quality assessment, among other needs.
• As needed, organize workshops and meetings and support mission preparations.
• Be on call to respond to and address the needs of the Initiative Coordinator/others.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by superiors.
• Provide support to other jurisdictions as required.
Experience:
1. Five years of progressive experience in data management - analysis, preparing graphs and charts, and report writing. Public health and epidemiological research experience preferred. Experience in transport, urban planning, and road safety is also a plus.
2. Two years of coordination and people management experience. (Experience in working with government officials will be preferred)
Qualifications: Master’s degree in Population Studies/Public Health/Social Work/Statistics or other related specializations such as Transport Planning/Engineering and Data Science
Skills Required:
1. Proficiency in database management systems like EpiInfo, ArcGIS or QGIS.
2. Advanced level proficiency in Excel
3. Proficiency in English language writing.
4. Languages - English, Hindi and Marathi. Marathi language proficiency is required. .
5. Strategically coordinating and communicating with internal and external stakeholders.
6. Eye for detail and accuracy, particularly in context with data management and analysis.
Duration: Eight months without extension
